I have visited Spooners Restaurant three times in as many months and each visit has been a gastronomic treat. The select menu offers beautifully balanced food with something for all tastes and the Russian influence of the dishes has delighted my taste buds on every occasion. But it’s not just the food that I found appealing, for me the whole dining experience has to be right and the staff tried in every way to make sure everything was just so. I would give full marks to Spooners for hitting the mark on every occasion. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to anyone who enjoys excellent food in friendly intimate surroundings; with hosts Mili and Ray, who go the extra mile to make your evening just that little bit special.

Spooners has a very international menu, with a variety of delicious dishes from the exotic and fabulous steaks to fish, but for ex-aficionados of Luba's Bistro off Brompton Road in the '60s and '70s, the stars of Liudmila's menu are her Russian dishes, including a caviar and smoked salmon blini starter, the can’t be missed hotpots, and the sculpted ‘Swan Lake’ pavlova. The atmosphere is intimate and friendly, with hostess Mili herself prepared to sit and chat if encouraged by the many friends of her little restaurant. The sea food, Russian and other event evenings are always a sell-out, so book early for those. Try lunch too, especially on Sundays, when prices are very reasonable.

We were great fans of Spooners during Martin's time and were a little unsure when the new team took over. However they have maintained the same high standards during three visits towards the end of 2008. Sadly the restaurant was not very busy which affected the atmosphere - but that may be a result of the recession. The selected Russian dishes were tasty and lighter than expected and one still has the feeling of dining with friends rather than at a restaurant. I would thoroughly recommend Spooners to anyone looking for classical and traditionally prepared food in a most relaxing environment. Best of all – it’s not a chain.

The new owners have developed a well balanced menu and have even improved on the high standards set by Martin. The food is superbly cooked and the service is impeccable. Dining there is a first class experience, a real pleasure.

Whether its a table for two or more,
Martin always opens the door,
Always with a wit, we leave a big tip,
As the food and service always exceed it.
Quality dining since our first visit in 1999.

I went to Spooners last night and couldn't fault it. The atmosphere was perfect, the service was wonderful. We weren;t rushed and the spacing between courses was perfect meaning we didn't come away feeling bloated.
As for the food, it was the best I ever tasted. The vegetables and potatoes were amazing, perfect seasoning, perfectly cooked. I enjoyed them as much as the main dish.
The meal was expensive but certainly worth it for a special occasion.

Really enjoyed the meal, and the service was excellent. A really friendly atmosphere, and we were not rushed through the meal.

I visited Spooners last night - not for the first time - however, I had forgotten how excellent the food really is, and the service is second to none. It was an unforgettable evening of unforgettable food - I never want to forget the steak or the Crème brûlée....
