With the apparent demise of "The Almond" the search was on again for a top Nottingham restaurant. I am delighted to say that, with Tonic, a strong contender has been found.

The quality of the food and service was faultless. Never has cheese and potato pie been so upmarket!

The only note of caution is that the restaurant is not the place for quiet meals. Although not full, the combined noise from occupied tables bounced around and made normal conversation difficult.

Having said that, go there and treat yourself. I will be again very soon.

I recently dined at Tonic and was impressed. I ate off the very reasonably priced pre-theatre menu, and had a superb meal in a beautiful setting. The meal was really great, the portion sizes just right and the staff very friendly; not in your face, but on hand at the right times to make our party feel very welcome and looked after. Would highly recommend this restaurant, and am returning again soon to try the a la carte menu; this looked delicious, and I need to try the desserts in miniature.

I visited Tonic for the first time last week on the strength of a recommendation from a friend and the fact that they have won several awards. You wouldn't know it from the outside but this is a really big place and the restaurant is on the top floor. There are a few stairs to tackle, but its well worth the climb. The restaurant was stunning, the members of staff were friendly and the food was simply amazing - wonderful combinations of flavours, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. The a la carte menu is reasonably priced, and I've already been back to take advantage of the pre-theatre menu, which at two courses for £12.95 is great value. This is my new favourite Nottingham restaurant and next week I'm back with the girls to try out the bar food menu - outside hopefully if the weather is decent.

This is a lovely place, but I will not be returning. The portions are very small and you need three courses just to feel satisfied. It’s quite overpriced and in my opinion the chef is trying a little too hard.

We were disappointed as the meal was not very good, the portions were small and meal was over-priced.

Usually worried about restaurants above bars as I think they tend to concentrate on the restaurants. Not in this case - the restaurant looked beautiful, the staff were friendly and the food was great.
