I have to say the best part of this restaurant is the fantastic location. I would recommend people to go there in the afternoon rather than night time due to the scenery. I love sitting outdoors, viewing the beautiful picturesque bridge and water and of course the peacock! My god the peacocks there are not afraid of humans, so if you like eating with birds, this would be a great place for you.

Having written a recent review on Trout Inn, I went there for a second time and I must say it was a whole new experience. The food was fantastic as was the service. It must have just been on a bad day the first time. So it just shows that sometimes it is worth a second visit.

Having been very disenchanted with Trout Inn for some years, I tried it again after the modernisation on word of mouth recommendation, and was delighted to find how much they have improved in all departments. This comes at a price of course, and I thought the fare was rather overpriced, but plentiful and very well presented. The waiting staff are excellent, I was inspired to give a good tip and I make it a point not to tip when I’m dissatisfied. As I live locally, I will certainly be going there again. The place is very good for children. One suggestion – I wish they could do away with 'canned' music, how about a modern piano on one or two evenings? This is becoming popular again, I have noticed, and goes down well. I can put you in touch with pianists.

This is a very nice place but I think they can do better with the food.

I wasn't sure if I liked the ‘modernisation’ aspect, but it does provide more space. The table service which has replaced long queues for food and drink is a complete blessing, though. I had a much better experience than before for this reason alone. I hope there will still be mulled wine in the winter!

The Trout is famous for being historical. The heritage includes Fair Rosamund, Lewis Carroll, Tolkien, Morse, Evelyn Waugh, etc. Why would "modern" ever be a quality visitors to the Trout are going to be looking for?

The Trout Inn has been taken over by a new company and is an amazing experience. The service is outstanding and the food even better. It has a new modern design with plenty of seating inside and out. It is advisable to book a dinner table though.

The Trout Inn is a lovely place to visit, especially when the weather is warm as it's a delight to sit in the garden and enjoy the scenery.
I have only eaten at the Trout once and could not complain about the quality of food offered - it was enjoyable and reasonably priced.
However, I can complain about the service, or rather the lack of it. Every time I've visited, usually for a drink, I have spent an extraordinarily long time waiting to be served. In fact, myself a few colleagues visited the Trout last night with the view to eating there. However, when we arrived, there was only 1 person serving drinks and 1 person taking food orders. The queues grew very quickly and did not reduce at all. Eventually, we left to eat elsewhere. As we left, the car park seemed to be filling very quickly and I can only imagine what the queues were like after then.
I feel that the Trout relies on its scenery too much to concern itself with service. Strangely, their poor service doesn't seem to affect their trade, but I shan't be going there for a drink again, let alone food.
