The food is simple and is served conscientiously in an amiable ambience. The feel good and eat well place that you always thought should be easy to find, but never did. I’d suggest you try this one, and you might agree. There is a form of saintliness in its simplicity.

My wife and I visted Wolfe's Bar and Grill on a Saturday evening and the food and service was exceptional, considering this was an hour prior to the theatres opening and a rush to eat beforehand. My only issue was the obligatory 'tip' added to the bill. This was not a huge amount of money, but I prefer to make my own judgment based on the food, service, etc.

I have been going to Wolfe's Bar and Grill from when it began nearly thirty years ago. At that time they were in Park Lane and later had a second branch behind Harrods, even then you could ask to visit the kitchen; now in Covent Garden you can see it through a glass window. Never in those years have I had a bad meal or a disappointed guest and I’ve been in there suited and booted and at times in jeans, T shirt and trainers and the service has been good. If I have one niggle, it's that newer waitresses are not sure what I mean if I ask for a burger or steak blue. It is unfortunate that sometimes I hear people ask for their burger or steak well done as it completely ruins the meal. Before the doomsayer's about food started getting their way, it was printed on the menu that the chef denied responsibility for any burger or steak cooked any more than medium. I like good food and look forward to dining at Wolfe's for at least another thirty years.

We visited Wolfe's for dinner before we went to the theatre. The place was busy, the atmosphere, vibrant and the standard of service, excellent. The quality of food is superb and one of the few places where they know how to cook a steak properly. My friend’s Kobe burger was out of this world.

I have eaten at Wolfe's on a number of occasions over the past three years both during the day and the evening and I can honestly say that I have not had a bad experience. The staff are very pleasant and attentive, service is quick and the food always good. The 2 for 1 cocktails are excellent value.

Dated and very confused decor that looks to have seen better days. The mirrored walls and ceilings didn't make up for the virtually empty restaurant but this did not deter our waitress refusing us the 2 course set menu for £14.50 as advertised at the front door on the grounds that: "We're too busy", unbelievable! Apart from that service was prompt and polite.

The food very much matched the decor: dated and lacking in taste. Particularly bad was the fillets of sole which was little more than fish in bread crumbs baked in the oven served with oven chips, a consistent theme at least. I believe the kobe burgers were reasonable and the desserts weren't bad.

Overall less than average and would recommend avoiding.

Review by Daniel Holden (24 December 2004)

I went to this restaurant on the 22nd December before going to the Royal Opera House to see the ballet. I have to say the food was very poor. I had a "world famous" (is it?) Wolfeburger with croquettes that were definitely overfried after probably having been deep frozen for over a year.

Most of the service was friendly but appeared slightly inexperienced.

Personally I was happy to get out of the place. The atmosphere was like a continental European Brasserie, but the clientele seemed to be made up of only aged American or Japanese tourists who wouldn't know that they are being ripped off. Overall the menu was completely overpriced for the quality of the food.

I dropped in for one quick cocktail on Saturday (10/01/2004) and ended up staying for more. My wife and I loved the place. The ambiance at the cocktail bar was fantastic and this is one of the few places in London where I have been dished up complimentary snacks with the cocktails. I'll be back soon!
