The Woolpack is open again as of 4th November 2009. It is a fantastic restaurant better than before - definitely worth a visit.

This restaurant is totally outstanding; the members of staff are excellent and the food is to die for, 10/10. We have been there many times and will keep going and recommending the place to friends and family. Keep up the good work and well done to all the staff.

A good general menu that is ideal for a range of people. Excellent pasta dishes, good sized starters, reasonable prices. It's a gastro-pub not a restaurant so don’t expect restaurant style or standards, but then again it does its job well; good food, cheapish, and light and airy setting.

Ate here last night, got to agree about the customer service. I asked the guy behind the bar if we had to book for a table that evening and he replied, "You have to book here every night". He thrust a card into my hand as if to dismiss me and then said, "There is a fifteen minute wait" Not normally one to shun the odd bit of confrontation, this really did catch me on the hop.
On the whole though (apart from that odd experience) I found the staff including that chap to be quite polite.
I have to say that I found the food less than impressive. The Greek mezze we ordered needed to be a whole lot bigger although it was quite tasty. Our main courses sounded a lot grander than they actually were. The promise of my garlic chicken lemon confit accompanied by Belgian frits, turned out to be chicken and chips, whilst the Risotto my wife had tasted like rice pudding. The place though is lovely if a little cramped and we will give it another chance. To be on the safe side though I will ring ahead to avoid any confusion!

I have wined and dined at the Woolpack many times over the years and although this pub keeps my pallet satisfied, that's as far as it goes I am afraid. The fight for space between the pretentious cosmopolitan customer this pub desperately tries to attract and the over-sized, wooden bulk tables, is as much of a nuisance as the sometimes frustratingly slow service and sometimes standoffish air protruding from the management. The food is a triumph, hats off to the chef. However, some improvement would not go amiss in the customer service department.
