Frankie & Benny's New York Italian Restaurant & Bar - Edinburgh

Frankie and Benny's combine the best of classic American and Italian in both style and cuisine. They specialise in home style cooking 'just like Mamma used to make it'. This is a great place to take the entire family and represents excellent value for money.

Glass & Thompson

To describe G&T as a bistro may not be quite accurate - café would probably best suit, but either way here is a real success story only a few minutes from the city centre, widely patronised, particularly as they do deli and takeaway as well.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen - Edinburgh

Gourmet Burger Kitchen was the brainchild of three New Zealanders, who craved after the way that food tasted back home. The chain was instrumental in changing the perception of many people who saw the traditional burger purely as a fast food option; instead they are now seen as more sophisticated products, made using fresh, good quality ingredients.

Grill Room at The Dome

If the passage of social history can be measured by the uses to which a country's buildings are subjected, The Dome poses an interesting sequence of events. Formerly the Physicians Hall, built by James Craig, it was replaced with a rather similar building in 1843 that housed in classical splendour the headquarters of the Commercial Bank of Scotland, only to become a magnificent bar and restaurant in more recent times simultaneously gaining a dignity that derives from a combination of banking, the leafy purlieus of George Street and the provision of a highly successful restaurant with leisure.

Grill Room, The

Whilst The Terrace Brasserie and Santini's offer excellent food and wines, the undoubted place to be for the more formally inclined is The Grill Room. When the Sheraton was built in 1985 the full brunt of designeritis had not hit and there was still plenty of room for the traditional.

  • Address: Sheraton Grand Hotel  , 1 Festival Square, Edinburgh, EH3 9SR (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): International, Modern British
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £28.00, Dinner: £45.00

Haldanes Restaurant

If your definition of dining out is the sort of tranquillity envisaged by Professor Higgins in My Fair Lady, with the added benefit of the company of ladies, then Haldanes is your place. Comfortable squashy sofas in a basement setting leading to a small patio garden provide gracious and relaxed surroundings for the serving of Scottish fare with a modern twist.

Hallion, The

Described as "Edinburgh's answer to the Groucho" this is a pretty apt description of the Edinburgh newcomer that is rocking them in the sporran. Totally cool, not to say tres chic, Hallion aims to provide the home from home that the well-heeled man, or woman, about town hankers after when away from the homestead.
