Darren and Susan run a friendly restaurant called Kookaburras that caters especially to families and is just two miles from Forfar. Run from a sprawling ranch like home, guests have the choice of sitting indoors or dining outside. While sipping tea outdoors, do not be surprised to see a wallaby or an ostrich like bird called the rhea wandering around the garden. With luck, you could even catch a glimpse of the emus. These friendly creatures are the family's pets and are tame enough to allow guests to feed them.

If the relaxed ambience makes you feel at ease, the simple and lovingly prepared food ensures you feel at home. Kangaroo and haggis Wellington, chicken sambal salad, grilled salmon on olive mash are all popular, while the chef selects passion fruit and kiwi Pavlova as his favourite. You could enjoy an assortment of salads, seafood, hot roasts and delicious desserts available on their special Sunday buffet, from noon until 3 pm.

A gift shop in the premises offers wood and stone carvings, aboriginal arts and crafts, jewellery, Australian prints and crafts from Indonesia, Scotland, Mexico and Africa, allowing guests to pick up souvenirs.
