A coaching inn with plenty of character, The Blue Bell Inn in Tushingham-cum-Grindley invites guests to sit back and enjoy its laidback ambience and old world charm with good food and drink. A typical country pub menu satisfies the appetite after a day spent exploring the countryside. In summer, the beer garden beckons with its sunny ambience.

Hearty traditional fare occupies pride of place here. Dishes full of flavour and freshness such as Shropshire blue and Cheddar cheese pâté, Oakwell black pudding with crispy bacon and smoked salmon and prawn salad whet the appetite. For a substantial main course, proceed with choice of rump or fillet steaks with peppercorn, brandy and cream sauce or steak and ale pie. Simply cooked smoked haddock topped with Cheddar rarebit or fresh trout baked in parsley butter is another option for a satisfying meal. To round of consider chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream or Pavlova with warm berry compote.

Housed in an old building with plenty of nooks and crannies, The Combermere Arms is a classic 16th century pub that still retains its character and charm even after many years. Serving a wide range of international food in a relaxed and pleasant ambience, the restaurant features a beautiful garden at the entrance, leading onto a large dining space filled with eclectic furnishings and walls lined with scores of prints and pictures, often reflecting local cheese making. There is also a stone flagged bar at one end serving a variety of food and drinks.

The menu offers many choices, with dishes such as cured citrus salmon with pickled fennel and watercress, and smoked chicken and baby leek terrine wrapped in bacon with tomato and tarragon chutney making for good starters. Mains consist of dishes like traditional pork sausages with red wine, onion gravy with mash and buttered cabbage; tempura tiger prawn with mango and chilli salad, and crab linguine with ginger, red chilli and coriander.

A comprehensive wine list, arranged by style rather than origin, served in this relaxed setting attracts people from near and far.
