The Wife of Bath
4 Upper Bridge Street, Wye, TN25 5AF [Map]
The Wife of Bath is a delightful old house with many Kentish features and they firmly believe that Sunday lunch is one British tradition worth observing; all you need is a lazy afternoon, an expandable waistline, good company and more Sunday papers than you could ever hope to read and of course, some delicious food and well-chosen drink.
A 24 hour advance booking procedure ensures that whole roast joints are served at the table for carving with all the trimmings. For those seeking something less meaty, there's Brixham crab with new potato and cucumber salsa; roasted garlic vegetables with marjoram vinaigrette and saffron tagliatelle, and pan-fried fillet of hake with samphire and pancetta and citrus dressing. Finish with some sticky wine or malt whisky.
If sleep beckons after a sumptuous meal, head to one of their five elegantly-styled ensuite bedrooms for a blissful night's rest and then kick-start your day with a hearty breakfast.
