The Restaurant at The Kingham Plough
Kingham, Chipping Norton, OX7 6YD [Map]
The Kingham Plough is situated on the village green in Kingham, and can be best described as a quintessential Cotswold Inn that presents visitors with the joys of visiting a lovely village free house. There is an outstanding restaurant alongside this popular pub, both of which were recently renovated.
You could relax by the fire or sit out in the sun with a Cotswold lager and a bar snack. A wide range of locally produced drinks from fruit juices and scrumpy to ales are available, as well as a selection of European wines. The daily changing bar snack menu encompasses hand-made scotched quail eggs, hand raised pork pie, home-made sausage rolls and snails and mushrooms on toast.
Don't be surprised if the menu at the end of the evening has somewhat evolved from the opening menu as dishes are replaced with even more seasonal produce! The restaurant carte could contain dishes such as crisp duck egg with watercress sauce and desserts like pear tarts with walnut ice cream.

The Courtyard Restaurant
The Crown and Cushion Hotel, 23 High Street, Chipping Norton, OX7 5AD [Map]
Originally a 15th-Century Coaching Inn, its traditions of hospitality and hostelry date back to 1497. The Crown and Cushion Hotel is situated on the High Street of Chipping Norton, in the heart of the Cotswolds countryside. In more recent times, it was owned by Keith Moon from "The Who". Dishes on offer might include smoked chicken and wild mushroom timbale or warm salad of pigeon with mains courses such as pan-fried guinea fowl with chestnuts, smoked salmon ravioli with poached salmon, wilted baby spinach and vermouth sauce or noisette of lamb, roasted and served with baby vegetables.

Wild Thyme Restaurant with Rooms
10 New Street, Chipping Norton, OX7 5LJ [Map]
Wild Thyme Restaurant, located within the Cotswold market town of Chipping Norton is an ideal countryside getaway and the three ensuite bedrooms with homely touches make it a gratifying place to relax. The restaurant set against a backdrop of stone walls, an open fire place and wonderful window seating speaks of its Grade II listing status while the contemporary elements thrown in create the right balance.
The cooking depends on local sourcing and seasonal ingredients and allows Mediterranean ideas to impinge on regional British cuisine. Take the seared Cornish scallops for example, which areis accompanied by Parmesan, cauliflower puree and crispy pancetta, amongst starters, or loin of Wychwood venison; best end of Wiggington lamb, or Cornish fish, leek and saffron stew with rouille and croutons. Desserts continue the theme with a plum and frangipane tart with honey ice cream and chocolate and hazelnut crème brûlée.
Antique shops and the weekly market nearby should keep the shopaholics busy.

While away the long summer evenings eating or drinking in the quiet garden or sit in the original Cotswold stone walled inn and choose between fillet of Shetland sea trout with roast fennel and orange cream or steak and hooky pie, chips and peas. Chav Brasserie
7 Horsefair, Chipping Norton, OX7 5AL [Map]
Transformation is in the air at Chav Brasserie and the simpler style that has emerged seems to be making the grade. Continental influences can be seen at work, though the overall impression is of less formal food than hitherto. Service is of a high order as is the wonderful bread for which a charge is perhaps justifiably made, so good is it. The general impression is that prices have come down whilst quality has, at the very least, stayed as good. A shortish wine list nonetheless has almost half available by the glass.
