A delightful, family-run 17th century hotel houses an attractive restaurant, tastefully decorated in fashionable blue and yellow, offering classic French cuisine with additions. Start with the mountain of smoked salmon, drizzled with lemon and dill dressing before progressing to slow roasted duck breast on a bed of flavoured rice noodles served with a sweet plum sauce.

The restaurant at The Bear, whilst in no way lacking in respect to the food which it offers, has an unfettered approach to the subject which can lead to surprises, most of them rewarding. Eggs poached in Earl Grey tea are not the first thing that might spring to mind when considering a menu, but it's there along with some other rather zaney propositions.
