Courtyard Restaurant, The

Originally a 15th-Century Coaching Inn, its traditions of hospitality and hostelry date back to 1497. The Crown and Cushion Hotel is situated on the High Street of Chipping Norton, in the heart of the Cotswolds countryside.

Crooked Billet, The

One of those rave review country inns which under spirited and determined leadership has built up a great reputation - and kept it. In 1989 Paul Clerehugh took over the Billet and its name for good food, founded on cooking in the eclectic manner, has resulted in a varied and attractive menu, with many surprises and innovations.

Daylesford Organic Farm Shop

Farm shops are on the increase, that's for sure. A few of them leave something to be desired, but in general the standards are good and a prime example exists at Chatsworth House. Another contender to enter the scene is the Daylesford Organic Farm Shop, run by the Bamford family and based on their family estate and farm in Gloucestershire.

  • Address: Daylesford, nr Moreton-in-Marsh, GL56 0YG (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): Organic

Dexter's Restaurant

Upstairs, above the bar, is a bright modern restaurant as befits the cuisine. The menu changes on a regular basis, offering dishes of some complexity and expertise. The open ravioli of asparagus artichokes and roast peppers, glazed with crème fraiche and Parmesan is a well-liked item and could be said to exemplify the standards here.

  • Cuisine(s): British UK, Modern
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £46.00

Du Vall's Restaurant

An enlarged coaching inn, said to be haunted by the restless spirit of a former highwayman, Claude Duval, for whom perhaps his native land was becoming a trifle uninhabitable, The Holt has a good atmosphere nonetheless.

  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £30.00

Edamame

And so the wonderful variety of cuisines available in Oxford rolls on. Edamame is clearly popular, as the lines outside at lunchtime bear witness to, but it does seem to be one of those places that you either love or don't.

Fallowfields Oxford Restaurant

Book Online

Fallowfields, formerly home to the Begum Aga Khan, continues to encourage the sort of standards that doubtless prevailed in her day. The restaurant offers dishes prepared by Charles Leenders and his team, many containing produce grown within the grounds, the backbone of a menu which veers towards English with continental overtones.

  • Address: Fallowfields Country House Hotel and Restaurant, Faringdon Road, Kingston Bagpuize, nr Abingdon, OX13 5BH (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): British UK, French
