If you're looking to relax over a fine meal in a restaurant where the ambience is laidback and casual, and yet the food is prepared with utmost care, then you might want to take a look at an Auberge restaurant. For over twelve years, they have been providing French inspired cuisine to their patrons and their popularity continues to be undiminished. Hunger demands can be met with their express menu with its sandwiches, burgers and salads.

Dinner options are also excellent, with typical starters such as tiger prawns with garlic, chilli, butter, parsley followed by herb crusted roasted lamb rump, gratin Dauphinois, French beans and rosemary jus. Sample the profiteroles filled with cream and covered with chocolate sauce for a light and delectable dessert and make sure you choose something from their selection of crisp Belgian beers or maybe a glass of wine from the eclectic list that spans both the old and the New World.

Brasserie Rhone

134 High Street, Old Woking, Woking, GU22 9JN [Map]

Drawing inspiration from the brasseries of Lyon and Paris, Brasserie Rhone located in High Street, Old Woking, offers Mediterranean style cuisine with heavy hints of olive oil, garlic, tomatoes, aubergines, fennel, peppers and herbs. Learn more

Drawing inspiration from the brasseries of Lyon and Paris, Brasserie Rhone located in High Street, Old Woking, offers Mediterranean style cuisine with heavy hints of olive oil, garlic, tomatoes, aubergines, fennel, peppers and herbs. Traditionally, brasserie food is a lot simpler than the haute cuisine associated with French restaurants and this is evident in the simple yet authentic preparations available at Rhone. Even the wine list is dominated by wines from the Rhone valley that are much like siblings to the recipes originating from the provinces of France, referred to as cuisine de ma grand'mère - grandmother's home cooking. The wines therefore, are excellent accompaniments to the meal and enrich the authenticity of the experience.

The escalivade, assiette de poisson fume au raifort, ratatouille en croûte, steak salad and poulet à l'estragon remain favourites, though every dish on the menu is an authentic reproduction of the original recipe from the provinces. The toasted brioche or pain au raisins is an excellent way to conclude the Brasserie Rhone experience.
