This old-established Italian favourite in Brighton just rolls on and on, and is as successful today as  when it started. Situated in the heart of Brighton's famous Lanes, Donatello is a restaurant well-frequented by locals, visitors and celebrities alike. With its traditional Italian-style interior, Donatello offers many options for seating, from 'la Capella' to the relaxing intimacy of Donatello's bar, which stocks a wide range of traditional and unusual drinks to precede, accompany and end your meal with. Alternatively, you can eat al fresco, simply watching the people go by Brighton's bustling streets.

An excellent variety of pizzas, pastas, and meat and fish dishes that include the Donatello special pizza with tomato, mozzarella cheese, sausage, olives, mushroom, artichokes, prawns, peppers, anchovies are on hand. Prawn cocktail, funghi trifolati, mushroom cooked in butter, garlic and parsley could be followed by a risotto marinara or petto di pollo Milanese, breast of chicken fried in breadcrumbs served with spaghetti pomodoro. It is the oldest and most popular seafood seafront restaurant in Brighton. The restaurant was build in 1817 and was the palatial seaside residence of Mr Thomas Coutts who was the founder of Coutts & Co the Royal Bank. A grade II listed building it still has most of the original features that Thomas Coutts chose so as to turn it into a truly palatial home. It was turned in to a restaurant in 1930 and has since then been serving fresh local fish.

It is a popular haunt for celebrities and food critics alike. To invoke the name 'Regency' in Brighton is to incite opposition, particularly if you happen to use it to name what is an unashamedly populist and upmarket chippy. Its no-nonsense, straightforward approach to presentation, served by naturally friendly staff is greatly loved by residents and visitors alike and you will seldom, if ever, see it anything less than busy. This is what meeting a need and making a living is all about.

Built on the site of the Duke Street Theatre, which later became the Theatre Royal after a visit by the Prince of Wales in 1805, the Havana restaurant replicates many of the theatre's original architectural features, notably the exterior Tuscan facade. The refurbished interior, with its hints of colonial grandeur, lends a touch of glamour and matches the modern international menu and enticing cocktail list.

For lunch or dinner guests can begin with chicken liver parfait with roast pear chutney, truffle potato tartare with oyster and ginger cream or mushroom ravioli. This could be followed by roast free range chicken breast with seasonal bubble and squeak, rack of lamb with mint fondant potatoes or roast cod with black olives and pine nuts. Sumptuous Havana delice or hot sticky toffee pudding brings the meal to a delightful end. The drinks menu includes an array of champagne and sparkling wines alongside an extensive list of reds and whites from around the world carefully chosen to accompany your meal.

Aumthong Thai

Cleverly carved carrot, potato flowers and a beautifully presented garnish of red cabbage, tomatoes and parsley, may seem a bit over the top for some, but the chefs at Aumthong Thai deserve full marks for putting in a lot of effort to present each dish. Shapely candles floating in a large glass is another feature that draws interest.

Tom yam poh taek is a special hot and sour seafood soup flavoured with lemon grass, limejuice and served in a traditional Thai steamboat. The zesty curries are cooked in a red or green curry paste with coconut milk, bamboo shoots and basil leaves. The Aumthong 'river gold' is a delightful combination of king prawns, squid, mussels and crab claws, grilled and served with a hot chilli sauce dip. The sizzling neuk yang, finely sliced, marinated and grilled sirloin steak flamed with rice wine, is amongst one of their more eye-catching dishes.

If your preference from the eclectic selection is a sandwich, then look forward to freshly made triple deckers with fillings of mature Cheddar, tuna mayonnaise, honey roast ham and prawn cocktail. There are paninis and wraps to choose from too. Alternative fare in the form of feta and pesto tart, chicken satay skewers or spicy nachos topped with salsa, and guacamole might also prevail. Although, the griddled steak with oven roasted tomato, field mushroom, chips, watercress dressing and béarnaise sauce or the chicken stack with chicken breast, cheese, bacon, salad, chips and beer smokehouse chilli could well be too good to resist. Decadent desserts of 'chocolate treat' and 'toffee indulgence' make your day.
