For some time I made the mistake of thinking that no group of restaurants in the region of 200 locations could hope to maintain the quality for which I was looking. With its exceptional location on the balcony of unit 10 Mermaid Quay, the extremely popular Bellinis certainly lives up to its reputation of 'elegance without extravagance'. A pleasantly earthy establishment, though it's sawdust, not earth that you'll find scattered on the floor, a feature which seems to have miraculously escaped the provisions of nanny legislation that currently afflict us.

A busy establishment down amongst the docks, owing something to the wine bar ethos but with restaurant aspirations. This is reflected in the variations of the menu and the time of day, with the wine bar emerging strongly at lunchtime, when the very mobile blackboards are in full swing offering such dishes as a tangy mackerel pate or salt beef with will dill pickles.
