Eleo's
32-33 The Kingsway, Swansea, SA1 5LE [Map]
Eleo's is a popular destination frequented by a varied crowd of young professionals, distinguished businessmen, local sports and television celebrities and discerning diners. The restaurant changed hands in 2007 and the new owners have done away with the old fashioned 'queue and choose' system where diners had to get up to select their food from a display cabinet. The original décor filled with old timber beams, white linen napkins and fine tableware produces an elegant and sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere.
A new, modern and exciting menu now awaits diners, which includes starters such as grilled king prawns in garlic butter sauce and smoked barbecued ribs with a maple syrup coating. For mains there is baked salmon vegetable stack and beurre blanc, and fillets of sea bass with parsley and lemon butter sauce. Other specialities are the lamb fillets with potato cake and the unique style Portuguese 'espetadas' - long skewers with chunks of marinated lamb or beef drizzled with garlic butter.

Didier & Stephanie
56 St Helen's Road, Swansea, SA1 4BE [Map]
A delightful touch of France in Wales, perhaps somewhere where Gallic supporters can console themselves when they lose to Wales, but more likely a place where the good people of Swansea can console themselves whenever they feel like it. Not that I am suggesting the culinary delights of Swansea are anything but international; as far as I know this is the place in town when it comes to the cuisine of France.
Accordion music may well herald your arrival if it should be the second Thursday of the month. I have no objection to music a dejeuner, provided it's real and in sympathy with the prior desire for conversation. Besides this sets off the friendly atmosphere of the place so well; what a pity it cannot happen more often.
The menu takes heed of a possible lack of the lingo so you have no excuse for not recognising the feuillete of snails with herbs and diced vegetables or the croustillant of black pudding with onions as very legitimate starters. Not normally an enthusiast for the gardener's worst friend, I was tempted by the rabbit casserole with prunes, but perhaps you too find that French cooking can transform a dish which, within a different cuisine might not seem so attractive.
The selection of French farmhouse cheeses just cannot be denied, but lest you are for some reason forbidden this treat you could resort to a mouthwatering vanilla crème brûlée. The brief wine list leaves little room for anything but French, which seems to me fair enough on this occasion. House wine at £9.90 a bottle is good value.

Cosmo - Swansea
15-16 Castle Street, Swansea, SA1 1JF [Map]
A unique and contemporary style defines each of Cosmo's restaurants, be it in Wednesfield, Swindon, Romford, Coventry, Hastings, Chatham, Tunbridge Wells or Cardiff. At Swansea, it's no different. Located on the ground floor of the 'Pavilion' at the heart of historic Clifton, Cosmo here boasts six live cooking stations, including a teppanyaki hotplate, yakatori barbecue grill, dim sum bar, noodle bar and a freshly prepared sushi counter.
At Cosmos, pan-Asian cuisine is on offer and traditional recipes from China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Mongolia, Singapore, Vietnam and even India are put to good use. Teppanyaki, Japanese sushi, barbeque and desserts are the speciality here. The likes of beef and mushrooms in oyster sauce, Thai green curry chicken and king prawn in garlic butter sauce are some dishes that also make an appearance. There's also a tandoori and curry bar that serves chicken masala and aloo gobi with a variety of Indian breads.
Close with some healthy options that include mixed fresh fruit salad and cantaloupe melon, grape and orange.

Nando's - Swansea
With quality food, friendly staff, quick service and excellent value for money, Nando's is a great place to eat. Don't expect identikit, pre-fab restaurant interiors which are usually a staple of the larger chains; each restaurant is tailored to its local surroundings and customers, offering up a unique restaurant experience to go with the equally unique taste of legendary, Portuguese, Peri-Peri chicken.
