Barn Restaurant, The

The Barn at Brynich is set in a converted 17th century hay barn and was opened to the public in March 2003. Owned and run by the Jones and Maggs family, it is set around a picturesque courtyard where you can sit out and enjoy panoramic views of the Brecon Beacons.

  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £18.00, Dinner: £25.00

Felin Fach Griffin, The

Not for nothing do the elite troops, amongst others, of the British Army train in the Brecons. It's pretty wild stuff and when the Felin Fach Griffin hoves into sight thoughts of an oasis in the desert leap to mind.

  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £23.00, Dinner: £40.00

Restaurant at Llangoed Hall Hotel

Should the sounds of ghostly oratory assail you during your time at Llangoed Hall, worry not. The Hall stands on the site of the Welsh Parliament of 1400 years ago and it is said that it was this connection that inspired Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, of Portmeirion fame, to transform this Jacobean country house into an Edwardian re-incarnation at the behest of the Christy family.

This historic hotel, formerly a coaching inn, is built on the site of the former much older castle, the remains of which are alongside the hotel. A bistro type menu with wide choices is on offer throughout the day in the bar and restaurant.

  • Address: The Castle Square, Brecon, LD3 9DB (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): British, European, International
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £20.00, Dinner: £34.00

Restaurant at The Three Cocks

Another of those havens of comfort and louche style that seem to abound in central Wales, with log fires, Oriental rugs, and structural antiquity as obligatory props. The menu is not lengthy but it is packed full of local produce.

  • Cuisine(s): British, Organic, Welsh
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £36.00

Restaurant at The White Swan

The Welsh Marches produce a good crop of really worthwhile restaurants, amongst which is the White Swan. Perhaps it has something to do with talented chefs seeking the peace and quiet of the area after the insanity of places that shall remain nameless.

  • Address: Llanfrynach, Brecon, LD3 7BZ (Map)

  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £20.00, Dinner: £38.00

Usk Inn, The

The Usk Inn is one of those hotels that came with the railway, in this case the Brecon to Merthyr line. Over the intervening years it has developed into a dining venue. Food is offered in the bar or air conditioned restaurant and even al fresco on the odd day! The menu is influenced by the styles of the Med, but uses mainly local ingredients and influences picked up over the years, the menu content changes several times each year, and blackboards reflect more sudden changes both of whim and availability.

  • Address: Station Road, Talybont-on-Usk, Brecon, LD3 7JE (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): Modern British, Welsh
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £28.00
