Built in the late 16th century, the Lion Inn was originally a coaching inn, brew house and pig farm and after being meticulously repackaged much of its original features like the brewing cellar still remain and so do a number of outhouses. The emphasis lies on honouring long established traditions by serving quality food and real ales in an affable village atmosphere.

The menu covers all bases from the classic pub grub and vegetarian options to authentic Hungarian specialities and Thai curry dishes, listing a choice of battered cod, chips and peas, cottage pie, tagliatelle served with a rich creamy ham and mushroom sauce and home roasted chicken. The turkey Budapest makes an ambitious foray into Hungary with pan-fried turkey steak topped with ham, mushrooms, pineapple and melted cheese, or the pork royale sandwiched with cream cheese and walnuts.

Lion Inn also stocks a good collection of keg lagers, bitters, ciders and Guinness.

A popular tourist destination in North Wales is Rhyl, with its holiday resorts, historic market places and regeneration projects, offering a number of attractive sightseeing options. The oldest house in this seaside town is also a lovely hotel and a delightful restaurant which serves some excellent modern European and British cuisine. Barrats of Ty'n Rhyl is set in a sprawling acre of grounds and exudes a sense of warmth and luxury where guests can choose to dine in the Georgian part of the house or the bright conservatory.

A typical meal there could begin with black pudding stack on mushy peas followed by medallions of pork fillet cooked with mushrooms, onions, white wine and sweet peppers. Chef Barrat ensures that everything in this two AA rosette restaurant is fresh and locally sourced. Strawberry pancakes with hot toffee sauce top the dessert list and you can recline in the lounge and enjoy some of their fine wines and ales.
