The Thai Orchid has laid claim to be Falmouth's first Thai restaurant and serves quality authentic Thai cuisine within the atmospheric setting of a restored 16th century building. Service is warm and relaxed and children are always welcome.

Their Thai chefs are happy to prepare dishes to suit your tastes whether they be hot or mild and the menu is extensive, incorporating fresh and organic local produce into traditional Thai recipes that feature meat, fish and plenty of vegetarian options.

Unusually for a Thai restaurant there is also a strong wine list, which includes the multi award winning Saint Clair Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from New Zealand, and, naturally, traditional Thai Beer.

On the impressive coastline between the rivers Helford and Fal, the hotel, owned by the Gibbons family for over twenty years, enjoys spacious panoramic views which are enough to give you an appetite without even thinking about the succulent fish lurking beneath the waters. There is a constantly changing menu of local seafoods, meats and vegetarian dishes, prepared with flair and intensive use of local produce. The wine list is extensive and compliments well the range of Rachel Dawe's menu.

The Flying Fish Bar and Grill at St Michael's Hotel offers fabulous fresh fish and seafood, and a range of snacks and daily specials. In fine weather, enjoying their al fresco dining for lunch and dinner and take in the spectacular view.

At Bistro Weigela you get a glimpse of what is on offer even before you step in. The boards outside on Arwenack Street list the day's specials and who will not be intrigued at the mention of Cornish teacakes, goulash soup or German style cucumber salad with sour cream?

The evening menu is devoted to bistro delights such as calamari, tomato and mozzarella cheese and Ardennes pâté with toast, followed by salmon, sweet potato and coriander fish cakes, and grilled butterfly chicken breast. Fondues are arguably the best of the bunch, so choose between cheese simple, Swiss, chicken and broth or meat mix for two to share. 'On Stones' section merits attention as well, with sirloin or fillet of beef and tuna, salmon and swordfish served with salad, potato wedges, dips and herbs.

The day menu at Bistro Weighla wears the European tag with dishes like strammer Max, Weiner schnitzel and Bavarian bretzel.
