In the attractive town of Bampton in Devon, on the edges of Exmoor National Park lies the family run restaurant of Blackberries.

It serves reasonably priced, homemade food that is all cooked to order. An extensive menu of hearty modern British classics could include pan-seared duck served with spiced Victoria plum sauce; pork mixed grill, fish pies, and cashew nut paella, preceded by starters of smoked salmon or mushrooms in creamy cheese sauce. In addition to this, there is an impressive array of vegetarian dishes and a takeaway of British and Indian fare. The Sunday roast offers great value for money, while the well-stocked bar and its menu have something for everyone.

The friendly inn has five rooms for guests who would like to stay and there are theme live music nights from time to time to liven things up. Attractive flower boxes dress up the windows and contribute to the floral look of the area.

This wonderful thatched pub is situated in the village of Rackenford, and abounds with history and charm. Dating back to the 12th century it is recorded as the oldest public house in Devon. The restaurant features an oak floored dining room and a bar area, along with a long outdoor deck area where patrons can enjoy al fresco dining during summer. Re-established in 2007 after an extensive refurbishment the venue has gained acclaim for its food, service and hospitality.

How about slow cooked chicken and duck leg terrine for a start? Then perhaps to follow, you could order red wine braised organic shoulder of West Yeo beef with potato puree and 10oz rib eye with field mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, hand cut chips and herb butter. To keep you busy throughout your meal various mixed salads are available. If you prefer light bites the bar menu offers options such as grilled Brixham mackerel with a tomato salsa and local cheese and ploughman's ham.
