There might have been a change of hands, but Reeds Restaurant has created an identity of its own although it is housed within the 2 AA starred Swallows Eaves Hotel. Situated in the beautiful countryside of East Devon, this wisteria-cloaked hotel is an ideal base to discover the natural treasures of Devon, Dorset and Somerset.

The cooking is loosely based on modern British techniques and the menu goes to print daily with a sharp focus on seasonal bounty. Homemade pork pie terrine with apple compote and salad rub shoulders with cream of cauliflower soup with herb oil and croutons amongst starters. For the next course shredded confit of Devon rabbit with parsnip purée, braised shallot and roast garlic, or Brixham clam and saffron risotto with bacon and rocket may impress. A classic vanilla crème brûlée with petit fours and baked chocolate mousse with salt caramel praline, orange and crème fraîche head the dessert list packed with familiar favourites.
