A mile or so from the sea and comfortably situated in one of the milder corners of Britain, this pleasant country house offers an inviting dining room with a slight touch of the conservatory to it. Local ingredients feature well, particularly items from the hotel's gardens and the seafood, witness the pan fried scallop, lamb sweetbread en croute with malted milk foam. Lobsters are always available with a little notice. The South Devon fillet of beef, chestnut gnocchi with field mushrooms is notable and could well be followed by an apple tarte tatin, Calvados and apple ice cream. A sensible wine list with reasonable prices.
