Chasers, The

I sometimes think that the locating of restaurants in almost any country is rather like picking mushrooms. You wander round a likely area picking the obvious ones, the big ones first of course, decide you need some more and start looking for the more obscured variety, with an occasional real winner lurking in a well camouflaged corner.

Elizabethan Inn, The

The Elizabethan Inn, which is a freehouse, is a thoroughly traditional country pub, and all the better for that. Family owned and operated by the proprietors, Nick Powell, the chef, and Anne Gibbs, who takes care of the bar, it offers a warm, friendly atmosphere and will happily cater for most tastes.

Restaurant at The Ilsington Country Hotel

With splendid views over the Dartmoor National Park to Haytor, Ilsington offers a very warm welcome to its guests. An important part of that welcome is the splendidly modern cooking which brings to the table dishes of sufficient excellence to meet the challenge of an appetite whetted by hours of walking amongst those stunningly beautiful hills.

Rock Inn, The

A delightful old coaching inn, going back to the 18th century, which takes its food seriously whilst still managing to retain its position as the 'local'. Whilst the food may be described as classic there is nothing pedestrian about the finished product, using local ingredients in particular.

  • Address: Dartmoor National Park, Haytor Vale, Bovey Tracy, nr Newton Abbot, TQ13 9XP (Map)
