Garden Room Restaurant
Tides Reach Hotel, South Sands, Salcombe, TQ8 8LJ [Map]
It is easy to see how this hotel achieved its name, perched as it is on the edge of a secluded bay, with mature trees for shade and plenty of sand for the tan. The restaurant is housed in The Garden Room, a spacious conservatory with equally spacious views. The menu is varied and likely to appeal to a wide range of tastes. Needless to say fresh fish and seafood feature strongly and one of the starters is a half lobster with three bean salad, cherry tomatoes and basil dressing. A good wine list with house wine at £13.75.

Serendipity at Soar Mill Cove Hotel
Soar Mill Cove Hotel, Malborough, nr Salcombe, TQ7 3DS [Map]
A very popular hotel and restaurant with impressive views sweeping down the cove to the bay, part of a group owned by the Makepeace family. The little luxuries are well taken care of here. It is customary to refer to the freshness of the local produce and this is certainly true here. It is not often the case that one can sit enjoying properly hung and well-reared meat, whilst admiring the relations of the provider in the field opposite the hotel.

The Galley
5 Fore Street, Salcombe, TQ8 8BY [Map]
Salcombe is home to a number of tourist attractions, but it is the sumptuous food at The Galley Restaurant that beckons those looking for a fresh and well prepared meal in pleasant and relaxing surroundings. Simple glass windows look out over the water affording guests a picturesque view of the yachts and the gently rolling harbour and the elegant décor is a fitting location for the delicious food that emerges from the kitchen.
You could sample delights such as haddock fishcakes with chilli jam for starters before moving onto pan seared scallops served with pernod and chive sauce on a bed of wilted spinach. The freshness of the ingredients is a given although they take pains to assure you that everything is locally sourced and traceable. The mango and raspberry parfait has the right undertones of sweet, fruity and tart elements and the wine list features classics from France and Italy alongside entrants from the New World.

Catch Italian Restaurant
55 Fore Street, Salcombe, TQ8 8JE [Map]
Located on Fore Street, overlooking Salcombe's picturesque waterfront, Catch is a family friendly Italian restaurant run by the husband and wife team of Micha and Donna. This two level restaurant offers a wide choice of Mediterranean style food that is affordable and popular with both locals and the town's tourist visitors. The bright and lively interiors are constantly filled with families and children, but also offer secluded areas for those wanting a quiet and intimate meal. Children are well catered for and so are requests for special diets.
The restaurant's varied menu includes a range of pizza, and pasta dishes, as well as fresh, locally sourced fish dishes infused with subtle flavours. You will also find classic British favourites such as sirloin steak served with mashed potatoes and vegetables alongside freshly prepared daily specials and a number of tempting homemade desserts. A buzzing and popular restaurant, Catch gets filled up very quickly, so bookings are recommended especially during the busy holiday periods.

Dick and Wills
Fore Street, Salcombe, TQ8 8JG [Map]
Dick and Wills is a stunning contemporary bar and brasserie with a New England feel and is elegantly situated on the waterside with fascinating panoramic views of Salcombe Estuary. The ambient and relaxing interior creates a friendly and sophisticated atmosphere in which to enjoy a relaxing meal. During the summer months the venue offers al fresco dining on the deck. The emphasis there is on service and good food in chic surroundings.
Ragout of wood pigeon breast, pancetta, and root vegetables served with sea salt and thyme puff pastry fleurons, and pan seared scallops with roasted cauliflowers can provide for a great start. Specialities there include dishes such as slow cooked sticky spiced lamb with fruity cous cous, natural yoghurt, honey and fresh figs, and char grilled ribeye steak topped with caramelized shallots, wild rocket, partridge blue cheese and truffle oil with house fries.
As they are so close to sea, you might not be surprised to find marvellous local examples there, such as pan seared fillet of turbot served on smoked haddock and south hams potato fish fingers with peas braised with pancetta and shallots or pan seared monkfish tails served with overnight heritage tomatoes, fennel and potato puree and crispy prosciutto.
