Quayside Restaurant, The

Another of those developments by the seaside that have gradually absorbed former dwelling houses as they have expanded. Not unnaturally the menu monitors on the abundant fruits of the sea and there is something singularly satisfying about looking out over the harbour as you enjoy them in transposed form.

Within this gracious manor house in rural Devon is an elegant wood-panelled restaurant in which one might expect more traditional offering to be presented. Not a bit of it! Regatta restaurant at The Imperial Hotel, The

Another of those wonderful seaside hotels where you can enjoy excellent seafood whilst looking over the sunlit waters and thinking of their relations beneath and yet to come. The Five Stars does not make for a stuffy experience at all and in the variety of places to eat there is a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere throughout.

If I was to tip an outsider for a new restaurant mini hot spot it could well be in slightly sleepy little Tavistock, only a few miles from Plymouth, home to one of the best pannier markets in the country, and surrounded by some of the finest scenery in Britain, though I must confess also to a certain personal interest.
