  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £14.00, Dinner: £27.00

Langdon Court Restaurant

Another of those wonderful Westcountry substantial houses that have survived most of the flak thrown at them over the years. Henry VIII was a previous owner and would have doubtless approved of the victuals on offer to enthusiastic diners.

  • Address: Langdon Court Hotel, Down Thomas, Plymouth, PL9 0DY (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): British, European
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: £24.00, Dinner: £36.00

Langtry's Restaurant

The Osborne Hotel looks over six acres of its own landscaped grounds that stretch down to Meadfoot Beach, together with a lovely view across the English Riviera. Langtry's offers a choice of regional specialities and innovative fare.

  • Cuisine(s): British

Lathwells

Lathwells is a welcome addition to the delightful town of Bideford where, despite an injunction to book a table in the front of the restaurant 'and watch the town buzz with excitement', one enjoys a rather more relaxed pace to that in some of our other country towns.

  • Address: 4 Cooper Street, Bideford, EX39 2DA (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): Seafood
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £28.00

Laughing Monk Restaurant, The

Whether the Laughing Monk, whoever he was, would have approved of the local school being transformed into a house of pleasure, so to speak, is not known, though it sounds rather as though he might.

  • Address: Totnes Road, Strete, nr Dartmouth, TQ6 0RN (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): French, Modern European
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £30.00

Lemon Tree

Recently awarded an AA rosette, The Lemon Tree provides a secluded setting for dining in a comfortable and relaxed environment, where both the service and the food are of good quality. Making use of local produce, with a veritable bread basket of ingredients on their front doorstep, dishes could include: duo of marinated fish, salmon gravadlax and tiger prawn ceviche with a dill dressing or wild boar terrine with red onion marmalade and Cumberland sauce to commence your meal.

  • Address: 9 Elliot Street, The Hoe, Plymouth, PL1 2PP (Map)

Lords Restaurant

Sited in what could be the oldest listed building in Bovey Tracey, with 15th century wooden beams and eight foot high wood burning fireplaces, Lords Restaurant is a romantic setting. Its classic Mediterranean food with dishes from France, such as a traditional boeuf bourguignon, Spain, like chicken andaluz, pan-fried breast with chorizo, red peppers and chopped tomatoes, finished with white wine and cream, and Italy, with a wide selection of different pasta dishes, attracts a mixed age group of all social backgrounds.

  • Address: 66-70 Fore Street, Bovey Tracey , TQ13 9AE (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): French, Mediterranean, Spanish
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: £32.00

Maddys Chippy

It is perhaps not unusual that time spent at the seaside should generate thoughts of seafood, notably fish and chips, now vigorously shaking off its 'common' image. Maddy's is strategically located a mere 150 yards from the sea, so if the weather is right set up base camp by the edge of the (outgoing) tide, leg it back to Maddy's, tool up with the fruits of the briny for under £5 and enjoy the view.

  • Address: 25 St James Place, Ilfracombe, EX34 9BJ (Map)
  • Cuisine(s): Fish & Chip
  • Avg. Cost Per Head Lunch: N/A, Dinner: N/A
