Three Coqs Brasserie
Above Clifton Down Shopping Centre, Whiteladies Road, Bristol, BS8 2PH [Map]
Three Coqs Brasserie is just a stone's throw away from the Clifton Down train station and shopping centre. The restaurant provides an informal and relaxed ambiance to enjoy a hearty meal.
The ingredients are locally sourced from the nearby farms and shores, whilst the execution of modern British recipes, is top notch. The menu takes a new approach and is not divided into the usual courses, rather it's a list of favourites from the cuisine. Expect to see the likes of lightly pickled octopus with a saffron and chilli dressing, baked duck egg with blue cheese and walnuts, and roasted wood pigeon with puy lentils, sweet peppers and beetroot.
Three Coqs Brasserie is one of the first restaurants to serve only natural and biodynamic wines.

Restaurant at The Menai
No.5 Chapel Row, Queen Square, Bath, BA1 1HN [Map]
The Beaujolais Bistro and Bar has been a culinary icon in Bath for the past thirty years but its present avatar indicates a renaissance of sorts that spans all the elements of this quirky little bistro, right from interior to the actual cooking. The recent refurbishment has brought about a fresh and contemporary appeal to the interior, where customers can enjoy a meal or a drink with friends while the courtyard garden with its stunning simplicity offers the pleasures of al fresco dining.
Fresh and seasonal produce go into making the menu, and bistro favourites such as wild mushroom soup with white truffle oil, sea trout on a warm new potato and green bean salad and roast rump of lamb, ratatouille of vegetables and rosemary jus make their presence felt. The wine list is eclectic, featuring choices from across the New World, and customers have the option of buying the odd bottle or three from the in house wine shop too.
