A family party of twelve of us had Saturday lunch at The Pear Tree, on what appeared to be the only dry spot in England, one warm September day. As we had driven through the murk of the northern stretches of a rain-swept M5 to a destination we had seen only on the internet, we began to wonder if a long lie-in might not have been a better option.

Restaurant at Shaw Country Hotel

This family run hotel occupying a 400 year old farmhouse is situated at Shaw in the county of Wiltshire. John and Gay Lewis with their twin sons Paul and Nick welcome visitors to this typical country hotel and offer comfortable accommodation with twelve well appointed ensuite bedrooms.

Restaurant at The Conigre Hotel

The restaurant is situated in the 400 year old farmhouse hotel, when full it only accommodates fifty covers. The menu changes frequently but can loosely be described as modern British. During the week they offer a reasonable fixed price men, two courses for £16, three for £19; however, on Fridays and Saturdays they have a la carte menu, with typically 5 or 6 choices per course.
