This is one of those delightful places for which people make substantial detours. The setting would delight the average conservationist, with its wooden floors and handsome well-used fireplaces. For those to whom fish dishes are irresistible, this is your sort of place. Ingredients arrive fresh from Cornwall and when prepared include such delights as red snapper, squid and scallops with a delicious Thai-style sauce. And as for the lobster bisque and Thai fish curry . . .The two-course lunch at £10 must be the best value for miles. This is a Wadsworth's house so you can trust the beer, which like everything else, is well kept, and that includes the fish-targeted.

Acclaimed as a true gem hidden in the magical Wiltshire countryside, the food is unique as Liz Franklin's light touch turns the beef, veal, pork, dairy and eggs from Helen Browning's Eastbrook Farm into cuisine that's catching the attention of customers and critics. Guests can enjoy crisp, clean air during farm walks and participate in scrabble leagues.
The simple starters on the menu may typically include St. Tola goat's cheese on toast and hummous and toasted seeds. Main course consists of pork belly slow cooked with fennel and sherry cannellini beans, served with chilli beans and traditional rarebreed Wiltshire faggots with smoked ham, opitati gratin and vegetables. A white gooey chocolate soup and saucy lemon surprise pudding bring the meal to a perfect end.
The bar stocks interesting, simple real ales and features a short but powerful organic wine list.
