The Park Restaurant
Lucknam Park Hotel, Colerne, Chippenham, SN14 8AZ [Map]
Notable amongst the restaurants of England, Lucknam Park combines a stately Palladian background with superbly prepared and presented food, all very much at a price. The former ballroom serves as a magnificent dining room in which Chef Hywel Jones sets a very high standard indeed. He needs to mind, given that one of his primary aims is to regain a Michelin star for the restaurant, missing now for some four years. Everyones' feet are kept firmly on the ground by a wonderful and friendly front of house staff. Unsurprisingly gloriously fresh seafood from nearby Cornish waters features strongly and the artistic attention paid to the food, not least in the puddings department, leads to spectacular results. The wine list, whilst interesting requires a determined stiffening of the plastic, with prices starting at £17.50.
