At Custard, Sophie Doyle manages a busy restaurant with a team that has as its head Chef, Dan Gedge, formerly of the Seafood Café. The décor is all clean cut brown and white, with accents from the British designer Cath Kidston. So start the day with a sturdy breakfast that could include soft boiled duck egg with soldiers, before moving on to elevenses, and a selection of cakes and pastries.

Custard certainly thrives on performance, and with lunch being an important part of the day out there is a good choice, from tasty snacks like salmon fishcakes, to full meals such as Trethillick Farm lamb with courgettes, broad beans and mint. Some inspired choices at dinner time include potted salt beef with horseradish and apple, followed by whole Cornish oh-so-fresh plaice with samphire and brown shrimps. To finish, perhaps a pear and blackberry crumble with custard.

All wines are from a European source and with ingredients not coming from too far off, there is a nod to low food mileage at Custard.

Belushi's believe in living life king size, whether it's their huge drink offers or the massive parties that they host. So stop by at the trendy Fulham venue, relax by the sea at Brighton, or head to Greenwich, the unstoppable East End, or any other outlet, you're assured of an all American bar and restaurant experience and like many of its rivals Belushi's certainly know a thing or two about partying.

No doubt their discount deals are a major draw, but having said that it's important not to overlook the food, and being thoroughly American, burgers are a speciality with typically generous portions. Think big, think Aussie works burger, or choose from some inventive toppings like Cajun, mushroom blue, the BBQ bacon or satay. A closer look at main courses could reveal chilli con carne, sausage and mash, fish and chips and sirloin steak, in addition to fresh salads and sandwiches. Haute cuisine it's not, but for well prepared and well priced classics, it's hard to beat.

The happy union of traditional with contemporary at Jack's Restaurant and Bar extends to not just the decor but also the cuisine, and it takes only a visit to confirm that this relatively new addition on the Wiltshire culinary scene has gained immense popularity with the locals. The smart and casual atmosphere makes this the ideal choice if you're looking for a celebratory spot or even for a simple evening out with friends.

Drop in for a full Wiltshire breakfast or enjoy a simple but tasty lunch while in the evenings expect starters of pressed terrine of pheasant and foie gras with sauce gribiche followed by a main course of roast corn fed chicken breast with wild mushroom cannelloni and tarragon jus. Indulge your sweet tooth with such delights as the dark chocolate tart with white chocolate ice cream or just opt for the British cheese plate with homemade chutney. The extensive wine list features excellent selections from the New and Old World.

Tucked away in a basement setting along the packed restaurant strip of Park Street, it's easy to overlook The Viceroy. This traditional curry house has a diverse menu featuring all the familiar dishes you would expect to find as well as a few more besides. From the more unusual choices you can opt for dishes such as honey roasted tandoori chicken bhuna, a mehty ghost cooked with fenugreek leaves, or the excellent green chilli massala. One of the main attractions of The Viceroy is its late night opening on Friday and Saturday nights when it stays open until 2.30am. There's also a takeaway service on offer with free local delivery.
