East Cowes has long been established as one of the major industrial areas of the Isle of Wight. Queen Victoria used to holiday there with her family and when her husband Prince Albert died, she made the island her home.

Today the place is fast regenerating itself from an industrial area into a big yachting town. A weeping ash tree known as the umbrella tree has been a feature of the centre of East Cowes for almost a hundred years and lends its name to a welcoming little café lovingly called Under The Umbrella Tree.

The coffee shop is run by a husband and wife team and some part time employees. The menu offers choices that range from breakfast muffins to baguettes and paninis up to chilli or curry.

Customers pop in throughout the day and their opening hours are not set in stone. The staff are happy to create something for you to eat even if it's late.
