Uplands Restaurant Description
You are assured of receiving a warm welcome at Tom and Diana Peter's small restaurant with rooms, just outside the beautiful medieval village of Cartmel near Grange-over-Sands at the southern edge of the English Lake District. The house stands in two acres of lovely gardens with wonderful views to the Leven Estuary on Morecambe Bay. Uplands retains a very good reputation for food built over years of service. The restaurant gets an excellent write-up in the current Good Food Guide and indeed, Uplands is a former Good Food Guide County Restaurant of the Year. The restaurant has two rosettes from the AA for food. All the cooking is done by Tom, who trained locally and at the renowned Miller Howe. Their is not a huge selection on the menu, and only one sitting, with everybody going in to dine at the same time, but so carefully chosen are the dishes that you still feel spoilt for choice, as you want to eat everything. A typical menu might consist of:
Hot salmon soufflé wrapped in smoked salmon served with watercress sauce or marinaded breast of wood pigeon (cooked pink) served on pineapple salad with Cumberland sauce
********************
A tureen of roasted red pepper and tomato soup with warm wholemeal bread
********************
Fillet of fresh sea bass baked with ginger and spring onion served with chive sauce or braised guinea fowl with prune and bacon roll and port wine sauce or loin of veal roasted with Dijon mustard and rosemary served with mushroom and Marsala sauce; accompanied by carrots with mint, butternut squash, french beans, grated beetroot with lime, potatoes with cream and cheese
********************
Fresh figs with Pernod and crème fraiche; chocolate Grand Marnier mousse; strawberry and passion fruit pavlova; home made mango ice cream in a brandy snap basket; banana, walnut and ginger pie with warm butterscotch sauce or cheese platter
Case proven! There is an interesting house selection of wines, starting from £10.50, with an intriguing list at good value prices.
No children under 8 years.

Your Reviews of Uplands Restaurant
Raj (30 January 2008)
As I walked in, I found the place contributes to a very nice overall feel. After sitting down and having a drink, we were shown the menu. Everything sounded like it was nice. I had the fish with an amazing sauce and my wife has the risotto. Both meals were delicious and the quality of food was of a high standard. We only visited Cumbria for a few days but I wish we had discovered this place in the beginning. Tom and Dianna greeted us with a smile and a friendly manner and we left thinking when we can visit here again. If you want a place with good people and good food this is the place to come to.
