This Notting Hill mainstay is a part of Vineet Bhatia's ever-expanding culinary empire, he certainly does keep expectations soaring as it also comes with something rather innovative as guests can cook meats at the table using volcanic rock grills. Warm timber wall panels and dark stained oak floors lend an air of warmth and style at the Urban Turban.

The kitchen seeks inspiration from the informal street food of Mumbai, where just eating won't suffice; it's more about sharing and having a good time with family and friends. Crispy vermicelli wrapped scallops and South Indian style crab and sweet corn cakes may be India's answer to tapas but their kebabs and grills prompt attention as well. Traditionalists could plump for classic helpings of coastal prawns in a coconut-chilli masala scented with lemongrass and Parsi style chicken with apricots and straw potatoes.

The dessert list at Urban Turban strikes a memorable note with cardamom pannacotta and silky chocolate délice with caramelised nuts and violette ice cream.
