A propitious start followed by a chequered history of 60 years has made Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket on Joliet Road an area landmark. Serving classic American comfort food, it is famous for its fried chicken which is prepared using fresh USDA Grade A chickens. Once on Route 66, this family owned restaurant survived hard times to gain a new lease of life.
The lunch buffet at Chicken Basket offers soup and salad, World Famous Fried Chicken, seasonal entrées, fresh seafood on Friday, mashed potatoes and seasonal fresh vegetables. Each World Famous Fried Chicken dinner includes choice of homemade soups and garden fresh salads, homemade buttermilk biscuits and choice of two side items - mashed potatoes, rice pilaf, homemade stuffing, French fries, fresh buttered Green beans and corn on the cob. Other attractions on the menu include fried catfish, BBQ baby back ribs, jumbo fried shrimp, 10 oz sirloin steak and a variety of sandwiches.
With a mug or pitcher of beer the meal is complete. Also served is an assortment of Route 66 specialty brew sodas.
