Originally built in 1947 to serve local factory workers, The South Street Diner is a popular hangout located a little distance away from South Station in Boston that serves food which is very American, at the same time being affordable. With an ambience that is relaxed and informal, it is frequented by college students as well as local residents and business people, who throng the place throughout the day and well into the night.
With interiors sporting a lot of colour and covered with old-school memorabilia including a photo booth and juke box, the restaurant's menu comprises of familiar options, such as breakfast specials of Texas French toast, banana walnut pancakes, smoked salmon served with bagel and cream cheese, and pancakes or French toast with different choices of meat. Besides these, are the omelettes with different choice in fillings, and sandwiches, subs and burgers with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
The well-furnished bar serves a number of drinks including cocktails, beers and different kinds of wine.
