With over two hundred carefully selected sake, authentic tapas-style dishes, and homemade desserts, it is not surprising that Sakagura is known as one of the top sake bars in America. The establishment opened in 1996 in the basement of a Midtown East office building and earned the nickname 'hidden jewel'. The traditional interior has intimate booths, Japanese art, and an atmosphere that is filled with the chatter of Japanese businessmen.

The menu supports the sake, and sashimi is served to complement your drink in the best possible way. A typical lunch could include assorted sashimi as appetizers, tempura, grilled fish and beef fillet steaks, and handmade hot or cold soba noodles. In the evening an extensive list of light bites such as chilled tofu topped with grated ginger; sliced raw squid cured in salt; spicy cod fish roe; fresh tuna sashimi; chicken meat balls; minced pork dumplings, beef tongue stewed in miso, and grilled Japanese eggplant make frequent appearances on tables.
