Four Dogs Tavern

Along the bucolic stretch of Strasburg Road sits a stone inn and what was once a neighboring stable. In the early 1800's the inn served as a refuge for travelers and locals while the stable would house their animals overnight. These buildings still stand proud in the center of the quaint historic town of Marshalltown and are now known as Marshalltown Inn and Four Dogs Tavern.
Fried oysters with tartar and cocktail sauce, shrimp dumplings with herbs, pickled ginger and sesame and chicken quesadilla with green chilies can be your choice for starters. For main course try 8 ounce filet of beef with potato au gratin and scallions or homemade gnocchi with pork sausage and sage. If you prefer salads then a combination of pear, pecans, bacon and bleu cheese awaits your pleasure. A variety of sandwiches such as ham served open faced with gruyere; grain mustard and crisp apple are also at hand.
