Clare & Don's Beach Shack (Falls Church)
Clare and Don's Beach Shack was recommended to us by a friend that knew the place well and said that the place was kid friendly with great service but it was anything but...
When we came there (around 5pm) the outside had a decent crowd so we asked for a table that would accomodate seven of us but asked for an inside table. The hostess asked us if the entire party was here. We said that the the other half would be here in about 10 minutes but we would like a table inside so we could settle our 6 and 10 year old. She stated that because we were all not here at once that we could not be seated. This puzzled us a bit since any other restaurant would seat us regardless of this and we could secure a table. My assumption was that they were packed and had no room. The hostess continued and said that we could go to the bar and wait till our entire party came and only then would seat us. She would find us when we all showed. Puzzled we said OK and started to go inside towards the bar.
Needless to say the experience was doomed since we had very poor service. The food could have been better if the service was friendly but sadly it was very average. It left a very bad taste (so to speak) in our mouth. The restaurant is not really kid-friendly since the baby seat was not accessible for a carrier and the buckle was broken on the seatbelt. The manager comped us two appetizers (fried pickles and hush-puppies) and the waitress (assuming after a talk by the manager) was much more reserve but the vibe of tense was still in the air with the sense that now she was forced to put on a show with a painted smile. It would have been preferable for a waitress change and a "do over." The manager could have gotten away by comping the initial nachos and drinks since this was the initial flare-up of the situation. I was not even looking for comped food just competent service with a genuine smile of wanting to make the customer happy with the experience. He did apologize for the actions and responses of the waitress but this experience sadly will keep us away from this restaurant.
I wish I could give a better response but this was not a great night out and the staff made it horrible. I have never heard of a policy that denies paying customers a table and service until all of the people show. Is this normal protocol for Falls Church? Our friend was embarrassed that she recommended the place in the first place.

Bubba O'Malley's (Burton)
Bubbas pizza is always the main item we order, but one Friday night I wanted steak, so I ordered the filet - med - it was the best steak I had ever had from a resturant... we have steak alot at home and filet is my fav so I was skeptical but this was fantastic... I let my 9 year old have a bite and the next time he also ordered the filet and we moaned and sighed through the whole meal...fabulous!!!

Ayza Wine and Chocolate Bar (New York)
I thought this place was great. The staff were extremely friendly, the ambiance is really cool and the food was great! the owner even followed us out to shake our hands for coming. I think this may be a new favorite of mine. The best part was watching people walk by outside with a confused look do a double take (because wine and chocolate bar just sounds amazing), walk up to the menu and keep walking. Seriously

Shasta Burger (Redding)
Great Burgers! We love Judy the owner. We live up in Washington and make a point to visit every time with go through Redding, which is at least once a year. The shakes are great, and the taco salads are the best.

Pas Pizzeria Inc (Kenosha)
Best pizza I have ever eaten, I live in Tampa, fl and my wife and I get a pas pizza anytime we go to Chicago or Milwaukee and especially when I visit my home town of Kenosha. There will never be a better Chicago style thin crust pizza for me ever again. I now eat at Paul's pizza in Clearwater, fl. It is my all time number two and I'm very picky. I hope it helps. You may not like the exterior of either place but both are spot on.

Casa La Femme (New York)
Went at 5 PM on Sunday night (5 people). Back room that is shown on photos at restaurant website was not open (disappointment #1). A la carte menu shown on web site was not available and pre-fixe was $60 not $55 with additinal charges on numerous items (sddisappointment #2). The smoked eggplant appetizer was the best part of the meal (1st course). For appetizers the crab cake was OK, the phyllo dough w/mushroom appetizer was soggy. Two of the main course stuffed fish with crab stuffing sent back to kitchen (sour taste). The prawns were totally overcooked in another main course. Had to order side dishes for the pre-fixe (no rice included on some)? The wine list was outrageously overpriced. All glitz, no substance, would never return.
