A nondescript exterior hides an array of feisty southern flavours brewing inside Clarence's Taste of New Orleans on Old Edgewood Road. Chef-owner Clarence Hill, originally from New Orleans, has transported the scintillating flavours of his native city to the more moderate Chesapeake Bay area.

The Taste of New Orleans sampler introduces the first time diner to Cajun specialities like gumbo ya ya, red beans and rice with Andouille sausage and jambalaya. A Louisiana classic, the jambalaya is a combination of rice, tomato sauce, spices, chicken and Andouille sausage. Regulars can steep themselves in such favourites as shrimp Creole, crawfish étouffée, a New Orleans gravy served with steaming rice, blackened catfish with crab topping, fried oysters and fried catfish with chips. A selection of sandwiches and Angus beef burgers and specialty po'boys gives more options. Desserts of southern bread pudding with whiskey sauce, triple chocolate sundae and praline parfait soothe the palate. You can opt for a beer or traditional sangria to do the same.
