With a population of less than 2000 residents, John Day is the largest town in Grant County and home to a number of different hotels and restaurants, one of which is The Outpost Pizza, Pub and Grill, situated in West Main Street, within walking distance of most local hotels.

The simple and rustic log interior is kept warm by a stone faced fireplace, and is decorated with stuffed wild cats and antler chandeliers.

The menu offers hearty breakfasts that could include biscuits and gravy skillet and signature items such as Huckleberry pancakes. Lunchtime meals are reasonably priced items ranging from original salads to local, all-natural hamburgers. Dinners take in pizza, steaks, fish and chips, and pasta.

The Outpost has a non-smoking bar with Oregon Video Lottery and a wide screen TV. There are two meeting rooms with seating for up to 100 people and an arcade for children, also available for parties.
