Jackie's Birthday Treat (23 January 2008)

We visited this great restaurant recently to celebrate a friend's birthday, despite feeling apprehensive after hearing the comments of a previous diner. However, I found everything superb. We were led to our table by friendly smiling staff, who quickly took our wet coats and drinks order. The food was excellent - freshly made pasta with fresh ingredients, which we wouldn't have missed for the world. We tucked into our personal choice with relish and enjoyed every mouthful. Even the owner came over to greet us and stayed to chat. As we cracked open a bottle of champagne, we were surprised to see a lovely cake, complete with candle brought out. With the pleasing tones of ‘happy birthday’ still ringing in our ears, we left very content. We will definitely return in the near future as this little Italian gem is a great find.

I was unbelievably disappointed with the food. It is often quite busy and is run by Italians and so I was expecting authentic Italian cuisine. It was cooked to the most basic of standards, and there was no sign of fresh ingredients. If we had only paid £5 or so for the meal it could have been justified but my meal cost £15 and my partner’s dry chicken on iceberg lettuce, £11. We honestly felt we had been ripped off and would definitely not recommend it.
