Viktor Description

With a name like this, not to mention Lubov Shurmer and Marianna Istomina, the owners, one might expect some Russian victuals imported from the Steppes. Not a bit of it, the mainstay here is Japanese food with influences from Latin-America, France and Russia, in fact very much a repeat of their successful restaurant in St Petersburg. On an antique parquet floor stand soberly covered banquettes and the overall impression is of restrained good taste, if slightly congested. Dishes include platters of raw fish with truffle oil and rock salt, called yellowtail tiradito, soft shell crab rolls, chicken teriyaki and some mild mannered ice cream flavours. The wonderful St Petersburg tea, a sort of infusion of lemons, oranges, mint and camomile could be equally well enjoyed at the start or the finish of the meal.
