My husband and I visited this pub today for lunch, and very nice it was too! We had a bottle of Chilean Sauvignon @ 14.95, 13% alcohol, and did all the things a good sauvignon should. To start we share the bread/charcuterie/olives plate and had a portion of deep fried brie with chutney.
Lovely melting brie, miserable portion of chutney, bread disappointing. Those little individual rolls you can buy and heat yourself. For over £5.00 a mixture of interesting, possible even home made breads, should have been supplied. The highlight of this plate for us was the whole roast garlic, yummy.
We then both had the beef, mine cooked rare was perfect as was husbands medium. There was quite a lot of fat on my meat, but the meat was tender and flavoursome. The roast potatoes were very good, crunchy outer, soft inner. good obviously home made yorkie, good gravy. The side order of vegetables was good. Nice al dente carrots, mange tout and courgettes. We also had one side order of dauphinoise potatoes, which were good, although I prefer more cream on mine.
After that we were too stuffed for pud or coffee. But the puddings I saw go out looked good and were getting lots of oohs and ahhs from adjoining tables. No sign of the dog, although we have had the pleasure? of her company when we visited here over a year ago. The total bill was £50.00 and we had good and friendly service. Was still full by 9pm so very good value.
I would recommend the vine tree for Sunday lunch at least, but will go in the summer to eat in the evening. the wine list has many wines by the glass, and the pricing seems fair for the quality of the wine. Worth driving out for.

We booked a table at The Vine Tree before reading the other review on this page. Had we read it before we would have been put off going. However, we are glad that we didn't see it before as we were pleasantly surprised. The pub was lovely and warm, which was great on a cold January evening. The waiting staff were all very friendly and the food was enjoyable. Neither of us had starters, but the main courses (lemon sole and boeuf bourguignon) were very tasty. We both chose sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was lovely. We did see the dog, but it didn't bother us. If it had I would have simply asked for it to be moved.
