We had lunch there last Sunday, and it was excellent. We both had roast beef and although Sirloin wouldn't be my choice of roasting cut, it was well executed with very nice timings. My dessert of treacle tart was particularly fine.

My friend and I were hunting around for somewhere yummy to eat whilst driving through the lanes in Norton when we came across The Vine Tree. Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, it was immediately apparent to us that this was a very popular pub with the car park looking jolly full. It was a lovely sunny day and we wanted to sit outside, but first we went into the pub where we were welcomed like old friends. We given the wine menu to choose our drinks from and I was really chuffed to see so many varied and fine quality wines available by the glass. At most other establishments it seems all there is to choose from is a house white and red, but here there was a wonderful variety and I chose a beautiful refreshingly cold rose and my friend went for a more sedate red. We took our wines outside and settled down outside. It was sunny and the walled garden terrace made it quite a suntrap. We got very warm sitting and chatting happily in the sunlight just relaxing. After a few minutes a waitress appeared with menus. We chose to share the charcuterie which was absolutely delicious - we particularly loved the roasted garlic and were very impressed with generous portions because we were both very hungry. For the main course I plumped for the chicken Caesar salad which was a sight to see with a lovely heap of fresh lettuce, wonderfully creamy Caesar dressing, which was obviously homemade and warm chicken with the juices running into and mingling with the crunchy croutons and anchovies. I was all made up with that and to celebrate I had another glass of the cold rose. Val, my friend really wanted the devilled lamb’s kidneys which was supposed to be a starter, for her main, and was pleased to find that the kitchen was more than happy to do it as a main course for her. It was served with fried ciabatta and came with a spoon for slurping up the juices which were far too tasty to leave. Everyone around us was having a lovely time which made for a great atmosphere. We were pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the bill was when it came and we left a nice tip for the excellent waitress service that we had received. We will certainly visit the Vine Tree again and although I'm not given to reviewing pubs, I've never done it before; I was so pleased with our lunch, that I thought I would share my enthusiasm with you.
