For excellent and down to earth priced Greek-Cypriot cuisine it is always worth a trek over to the Bound Green area in North London, or to be more specific to Vrisaki. Its many fans rate it as quite one of the best in London, and it even gets included in the Round Up section of the 2003 Good Food Guide. There you'll find a range of really fantastic meze, with flavours varying from well-sourced and perfectly grilled halloumi to delicious homemade dips such as a particularly garlicky tzatziki, all served in very generous quantities. Like many who live in a cosmopolitan city like London I also have friends from most countries. Everybody speaks about Chinese, Italian and French cousins so one day I invited a few friends to dinner at Vrisaki - just wanted them to have the best Greek food you can buy in London at a very reasonable price. Vrisaki was the obvious choice. Now not just my friends but their friends are also visitors at Vrisaki and all said it’s one of the best meals they’ve ever had at any price. Being Greek this made me proud of my country's food.

My husband and I are ardent fans of Vrisaki. He first took me there on Valentine’s night a few years ago and it was an amazing experience - very traditional and friendly atmosphere. We have taken several friends there who have all equally fallen in love with it. The fact that it is frequented by many Greek-Cypriot families is a good sign, however, when we went again last night, one of the guests was none other than the President of Cyprus; high praise indeed!
