Wardroom, The
The Old Royal Naval College, London, SE10 9NN
Situated below the stunning Painted Hall of the old Royal Naval College in what was the original Wardroom, this new addition to the Greenwich culinary scene is an utter delight. Unusually open just for lunch, the Executive chef Dave Addington produces exquisitely prepared variations on traditional English dishes. The 3 course Sunday lunch for £14.95 is a great bet, but the daily a la carte menu offers a superb but not overwhelming choice of dishes. Particularly good is the pumpkin cream soup with pumpkin ravioli - delicately spiced and delightfully presented. For the main course, try the pan fried noisette of lamb fillet with rosemary, mint and blackcurrant sauce. The meat is cooked perfectly with a gentle rosy hue, and the delicate sauce is the perfect foil - unlike so many attempts to liven up lamb dishes.Situated below the stunning Painted Hall of the old Royal Naval College in what was the original Wardroom, this new addition to the Greenwich culinary scene is an utter delight. After lunch, you can visit the fabulous Painted Hall and Chapel free of charge, so it's the perfect place to stop for lunch if you're passing through the beautiful borough of Greenwich.
