Your Reviews of Wheatsheaf Inn, The

Neil (5 May 2008)

We just returned from a weekend at The Wheatsheaf Inn and had superb meals. The tiger prawns were succulent, the burger was meaty and full of flavour, and the crispy duck was the tastiest duck I’ve ever eaten. Combine that with good wines at reasonable prices, a well kept pint of Hooky and friendly service - we had an enjoyable time.

Frank (16 July 2007)

I visited the Wheatsheaf Inn recently with my wife and daughter. I was very disappointed with the quality of the food presented, especially at the prices charged. £9.95 for a basic burger and fries is excessive; and by "basic" I should explain that the burger arrived simply presented on the usual sesame-seed roll, with none of the usual garnish that you would expect - especially at the high-end bistro prices that are being charged. In addition, the burger itself was overcooked, to the point of being burned. I reckon I could get better at a roadside van, for less than a third of the price.

My wife was similarly disappointed with her similarly-presented "basic" fish-and-chips - again, no garnish or appealing presentation - just the fish and chips, not acceptable at £11.95. My wife chanced to mention this to the manager - who replied in the manner of "well, why did you order it then?” All in all, a very disappointing experience. We will definitely not be going back.

I have seen some good reviews for a similar establishment in this area - I can only assume either that the Wheatsheaf has changed hands recently, or there is a similarly-named hotel in the area.
