Wheelers Oyster Bar Description

Well, it would be rather strange if somebody had not done it and here it is - founded in the 19th century by Richard Wheeler ("Leggy" to his friends) this is the genuine article. Small and perfectly formed the cooking is renowned and the cold seafood, simply prepared, has special appeal.

The fare is relatively simple as in a bowl of eels with bread, whole bay octopus, together with more elaborate dishes. The date and chocolate sponge makes an admirable denouement. You bring your own bottles, they supply the glasses and also decline to charge corkage. Credit cards are not accepted.

The only reason I would say anything disparaging about Wheelers would be to stop too many people into the secret. My wife and I and any friends we have taken there consider this to be one of the best places to eat in the world and the smallness of the space tends to lead to a fun almost party atmosphere. Last time we were there every table was interacting and sharing wines and conversation. The worst bit is having to leave.

I went to Wheelers on my birthday in August. It's an intimate place, okay, small, but it's worth every penny and I would recommend it in a heartbeat. The food is great and the portions are very generous. The seafood is as fresh as it can get and the price is quite reasonable. It was a wonderful experience and I look forward to going there again soon.
