Wheelers Oyster Bar Description
Well, it would be rather strange if somebody had not done it and here it is - founded in the 19th century by Richard Wheeler ("Leggy" to his friends) this is the genuine article. Small and perfectly formed the cooking is renowned and the cold seafood, simply prepared, has special appeal.
The fare is relatively simple as in a bowl of eels with bread, whole bay octopus, together with more elaborate dishes. The date and chocolate sponge makes an admirable denouement. You bring your own bottles, they supply the glasses and also decline to charge corkage. Credit cards are not accepted.

What an amazing place! The atmosphere is intimate, the members of staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, and the food - well I have eaten all over the world and this ranks among the best fish I have ever eaten. I ate there yesterday at lunchtime and the experience was one of my finest. I ate at many restaurants in the area whilst I was here but this was the best by far, although other nearby establishments have a Michelin star, why has Wheelers been passed by? - Matthew, USA

I jumped into Wheelers Oyster Bar as I'm an oyster farmer in Brittany, France and always looking to eat local oysters when I'm in the area. It's a great place as we were standing and eating local oysters out of a barstool. We tried several other dishes and it was the finest experience I’ve ever had.
