Wheelers Oyster Bar

8 High Street, Whitstable, CT5 1BQ

For over 150 years, Wheelers Oyster Bar has nestled in between the old Bear and Key Pub, and The Duke of Cumberland Hotel, serving the freshest of seafood to locals and visitors. Winning numerous awards and even publishing its own award winning recipe book, the restaurant, now run by Delia Fitt and Mark Stubbs, has become world famous for its food and simple, traditional atmosphere. It has survived the many harsh winters, and two world wars, and this bright pink little venue has won the Les Routiers, and Gourmand awards among many others. Apart from the native oysters you can expect to find dishes such as pan fried scallops with maple syrup glazed pork belly, apple sauce and balsamic dressing, king crab tortellini and tempura of curried tiger prawns and courgettes.

REVIEWS OF Wheelers Oyster Bar

Chrissie (12 December 2010)

The most divine place to eat. I managed to book a table for two by phone one day before my 50th by virtue of a cancellation five minutes before I called - kismet! Whoever passes this restaurant by, has missed out on a unique gastronomic experience.

BarnabyJohn (24 March 2009)

The only reason I would say anything disparaging about Wheelers would be to stop too many people into the secret. My wife and I and any friends we have taken there consider this to be one of the best places to eat in the world and the smallness of the space tends to lead to a fun almost party atmosphere. Last time we were there every table was interacting and sharing wines and conversation. The worst bit is having to leave.
