Wig & Mitre - Lincoln

30-32 Steep Hill, Lincoln, LN2 1LU

Situated in the heart of historic Lincoln, The Wig and Mitre is a long established, reassuringly civilised pub-restaurant sitting prettily on the appropriately named Steep Hill. The bar downstairs is a great place for a drink but if hunger pangs get the better of you head to the restaurant upstairs where oak beams and Victorian chairs work well to bring in that old English atmosphere as you settle in to peruse the international menu. For starters there could be Iranian sevruga caviar with blinis and crème fraîche, which could be followed by a 'flat iron' steak with Parmesan parsnips and truffled mash, or apple and thyme stuffed baked fillet of sea bass with straw potato and herbed sour cream.

REVIEWS OF Wig & Mitre - Lincoln

Jenni (4 April 2010)

We went on Sunday of April 2010 for lunch. I started with a salmon and pea souflee which was light and very tasty-perfect. The bread that accompanied it was granary and exceedingly fresh and wholesome. I have to say it was a lovely experience. The beef was advertised as pink and it was truly succulent and having been coated in mustard, had a lovely flavour. The roast potatoes were roasted and not deep fried as many are. The veg were very crisp which may not suit everyone, but for me, were perfect. The Yorkshire pudding had suffered a bit from being stood, and was slightly chewy, but that was the only fault. The gravy was thick and rich. The service was polite and efficient. Altogether the best Sunday meal I have had in a long time. Would highly recommend it!

John Partridge (17 March 2009)

With all of the hype in the windows about AA awards and so on, it was hard not to go in and sample the food. Visited on a Monday night - service was average, there seemed to be only one person covering the bar and table service. The food came quickly and was nicely presented. The capers and tomato on the blade of beef dish were nice but overall the beef seemed dry. The main course fish soufflé dish had very little fish but lots of burnt cream and egg soufflé; seemed more like a starter than a main dish for £10.95.
