This little restaurant is raising its game; it started well and is getting better. This was our second lunch there, after a gap of a few months. For starters, the twice baked goat's cheese soufflé was light and tasty, with a little onion chutney to add a contrasting flavour and colour. The escabeche of mackerel was delicately cooked and accompanied with a colourful garnish of peppers to appeal to the eye as well as the palette. For a main course the smoked haddock on a bed of creamy mash and spinach, with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce was a classic dish which was well executed, and the poached chicken breast with a garnish of wild mushrooms was beautifully cooked and full of flavour. My dessert was a chocolate fondant with ginger ice cream - the fondant was as good as any I have ever had, with a perfect liquid centre. My companion, the missus, always drawn to anything with the word ‘crumble’ in the title, pronounced the date and walnut crumble with honeycomb ice cream to be top-notch. Reasonably priced for what it offers, this is certainly a place to visit.

A diamond for Chipping Norton, Wild Thyme is a restaurant deserving serious recognition. The food is to die for and the service is first class. It’s an intimate restaurant with an outstanding future ahead – I can't wait to return.
